In
1982 Richard received an award at Caesar’s Palace: 1982 Club D.J. Of
The Year. This was a Billboard Magazine Award. Shortly thereafter he
moved back to N.Y. and began spinning in Queens and Long Island. In
addition he was the first recorded white rapper in music history with a
break dance record on Radar Records - the song was called “The
Break” - the year was 1983.
Richard,
produced by Eric Mathews (Gary’s Gang) (Tony Lee) then began writing
andproducing
voice-overs for a club in Queens that was very popular during the mid
80’s. He spunat Environ (Dance Music), and Camouflage (New Wave). The
club became extremely popular due in part to radio spots on WKTU and
WLIR. Throughout this period Richie also spun in the Hamptons. La Plage
and Le Mans were two of the hottest clubs at the time. He also set up a
portable unit at Neptune’s (on the beach).
In
1986 Richie was scouted and lured to Phase II the then largest club in
Queens, Phase II, which later became Paled’s. He talked the owner into
bringing in “Freestyle Acts” and again this club exploded with
popularity.
Richie
spun there for almost 3 years and “Semi Retired” to start a family
but couldn’t give it up. He started spinning again in Brooklyn at the
Bay Club and spun for another year. He also occasionally did guest spots
at 231 a popular club in Long Island.
From
the late 80’s through the mid 90’s He was a featured guest on Las
Vegas Radio Mix Shows. The most prominent being KLUC with live mixing
and 4 turntables the most popular mix show at the time (the party zone)
in the entire west coast.
In
1999 he was invited to guest D.J. at the re-opened Studio 54 in the MGM
Grand in Las
Vegas. Since then he has spun several times at Studio 54, and Eden (the
54 House Night). He’s also spun at the largest after hours venues in
Las Vegas for the past 4 Labor Day weekends. These big Vegas weekends
bring the cream of the crop D.J.’s to Vegas such as Scribble, Junior
Vasquez, Danny Tengalia, Paul Oakenfold etc. etc.
In
March of 2003, he had the honor of doing a 3 hour Lounge House Set on
grand opening
night at Tabú Ultra Lounge in the MGM in Las Vegas. The first Jock up
was Jerome Del Palma from France, followed by Javier Alba from Spain and
finally yours truly Richard Scotti “The New Yorker”
He
has since been flown in several times by the MGM Management Team to spin
at Tabú, which was recently voted the best Ultra Lounge in the world at
an award’s ceremony related to the Miami Music Conference
He
also occasionally guest spots at a hot lounge in NYC called Abaya. He is
now looking to get much more involved in the thing he loves to do the
most – play music for people.
Please
contact him for a sample of the styles of spinning he has incorporated
into his music over his 25 year career. Lately his taste has migrated to
the form of “House” which is really a return to Funky Disco from the
70’s featuring live instrumentation, and Latin percussion elements
supported by record labels such as Naked & Soulfuric and Defected.
The B.P.M.’s are down to a 126 - 132 range; and it’s fun to spin
music that although original in form, has a warm and familiar sound in
content.
Richie
is versatile and can spin any style of music as well as any genre as he
has specialized in all of it at one time or another.
